100 Sketch Challenge

Hello! I know its been awhile since I've last posted on here, a lot of things have happen since then :3 I relocated to a new town and started working at David and Goliath as a graphic designer. I previously interned with them during the summer of last year and here I am now! I am very thankful to be working here, I have been learning so many cool things and absolutely love the creative team I'm on. With that said, I haven't been doing much personal cafe sketches and I miss it dearly.

This past weekend I did a 100 sketch challenge at my favorite place to draw, Barnes and Noble. I didn't realize when I moved up here, there was one located less than five minutes away (Its meant to be ;P) The purpose of this challenge was to break my previous method of drawing, which was slow and emotionless. I wanted to block people in quickly before they got up and left. I purchased a set of scented highlighter found in the clearance section that proved useful towards the end of the session.

It wasn't my best weekend of drawing but it's a start and I will definitely try this out again. For now I shall do another challenge of 100 noses because I seem to struggle with those a lot, be on the look out for the next blog post to see how they go. I've always wanted to draw a whole bunch of noses, hands, etc. I some how managed to not get those assignments when I was in art school.

Sketches on the go

I must say my favorite thing to do is still drawing people from observation. This weeks sketches came from a recent visit to Barnes and Noble cafe with my good friend. There were so many people, all the options! Sometimes I get caught by the individual I'm drawing, but it absolutely makes my day when my sketches bring a smile upon their face. I've been also getting a kick out of these Crayola colored pencils I found from when I was a kid.

Fictionary WIP

I am currently taking a synergism class taught by Mike Hodges here at Ringling. Here is some work in progress on a project, Fictionary, where we have to use words from one page in the dictionary and come up with a cohesive illustration, can you guess what words I used?

Sea otters!!!

I love sea otters, like LOVE them. Here is an illustration I did for my advance media class. The criteria was to have a man pet and machine executed in pen and ink. In this case, a little lady, otters and an inner tube. I'm looking forward to adding color :)

Pho Photos?

Tomorrow is the first day of my last semester at Ringling. I can't wait to get back to work and pump out amazing art. I'm excited, anxious, scared, and a bit sad. I made wonderful friends here, a few have already left to chase bigger dreams. I'm truly thankful for them and will miss them dearly after graduation.

With that said, I started another blog. I chose to keep it separate from this one because the subject matter is purely experimental. I receive a slr camera for christmas and I'm dying to learn it. It would be very beneficial to my artwork between taking useful reference photos and documenting inspiration. So if you interested, here is the link to the other blog, http://phophotography.blogspot.com/, yes pho photos. Like pho noodles, I'm vietnamese and pho is one of the best things ever. Heres a snapshot of what's it about, cute hermit crabs.
